Somatic Practice
“Somatics is the study of the self from the perspective of one’s lived experience, encompassing the dimensions of body, psyche, and spirit.”
— Thomas Hanna
What I Do
I use various tools, including Somatic Experiencing®, Transformative Touch®, co-regulation through touch, movement, yoga and breath work, to help my clients explore the ways they hold their emotional experiences in their body. The goal is to engage, complete and resolve – in a slow and supported way – the body’s instinctual responses in order to move towards better nervous system regulation and access to more vitality.
During a session, that is usually of 50 to 60 minutes, we explore the body’s memory of a difficult event rather than retelling a story. Trauma is not so much about the event, but rather the physiological imprint the experience leaves in the body. We will focus on completing any thwarted survival mechanism, freeing energy stuck in the body and thus allowing a reorganization of the nervous system and a restoration of the capacity to self-regulate and the ability to more actively engage in life.
There is a wide range of traumas, including natural disasters, exposure to violence, accidents and falls, serious illness, sudden loss of a loved one, surgeries and medical or dental procedures, childhood neglect or abuse and difficult pregnancy and birth. Experiencing these events without adequate support can be extremely challenging and impact the sense of safety of a person, leaving them to feel vulnerable and helpless which often leads to a loss of connection to themselves and their environment. My work aims to re-establish that sense of connection and to support and guide you through your gradual journey towards wellness.
