Yoga & Movement Education
I have been teaching yoga for over 10 years and work with people of different ages, from college students to seniors.
My approach to yoga focuses on functional movement and optimal alignment to reduce tension, eliminate chronic pain from poor posture, and promote better body function while protecting the joints and maintaining a healthy spine... in short, to feel better in your body!
My goal is to help people become more attuned to the language of their bodies. Small changes in the way we move or stand can have a big impact on balance, breath, ease of movement, ability to concentrate and resilience to stress. It’s all connected... Through movement exploration, I help my clients become more aware of how they move or compensate, especially when they have chronic pain, and learn how to correct certain movement patterns to access greater ease.
My approach does not aim at achieving excessive flexibility, but rather at establishing a better balance between muscle stretching and strengthening. Hyper-flexibility is not necessarily desirable since it could lead in the long term to the laxity of ligament tissue, making joints unstable. Our body is designed to move with a certain range of motion and, in order to maintain long-term joint stability, our activities must support that. A focus on functional movements and optimal posture will allow freer breath, better functioning of internal organs and pain-free mobility throughout our lives. As well, having taken the BoneFit training from Osteoporosis Canada, I am very mindful to educate students about safe movements for the spine and ways to keep a healthy and active lifestyle.
I offer private and group classes, on-site and on-line. Contact me for more information.
